Angelo Comino aka Motor is an artist who channels his artistic expression into the constant exploration of the languages of contemporaneity. Thanks to his solid grounding in the scientific disciplines, which he uses in his day job, Motor's work shows a syncretism that is very much an expression of the contemporary world. Motor grew up in Turin's underground scene, getting involved in everything from sound design to scriptwriting, from installations to interactive multimedia productions, from performance art to experimental theatre.
In 2000 he unveiled IL LIBRO DELL'ANGELO A MOTORE – THE BOOK OF MOTOR ANGEL, a book, CD-ROM and sort of hypnotic machine all in one that was presented at various cyberpunk reviews, including "La Carne e Il Metallo" ("Meat & Metal", Spazio Oberdan, Milan, organised by SHAKE), "Nuovi Linguaggi" ("New Languages", COX 18, Milan), "Camere comunicanti" ("Communicating Doors", CSA Indiano, Prato), and BIG Torino 2000, Big Off (Verbania).
The following year he wrote and published for Addictions the novel Il sogno di Eliza ("Eliza's Dream"), half written using artificial intelligence and automatic text generation software. The project led to a second book written by a collective of authors, Eliza 2.0.
In 2005 he produced the project GHOST, an interactive room for Share Festival 2005 (Palazzo Cavour, Turin), with Gianni Corino. The installation tracked the movement of visitors, with the room understanding when people moved calmly or jerkily, and reacting accordingly...
In 2006 he presented the interactive installation NEW YORK DREAM-MACHINE for the MAZE Gallery, in partnership with Traffic Festival 2006, before returning to the stage of Hiroshima Mon Amour with Antonia Caronia and Massimo Giovara to present Heatseeker, a performance taking inspiration from J.G. Ballard's The Atrocity Exhibition and Conrad's Heart of Darkness, where a live voice takes the audience on a post-apocalyptic journey into an area under quarantine. The performance featured a forty-five minute video of 3D computer graphics, produced by Vivo studio.
Then came the project "Clean//Unclean", where digital choruses provide the soundtrack to war footage recorded by the sensors of night-vision weapons that can see in the dark. Famous images, surgical operations, the voices of television presenters and soldiers that drive tanks with joysticks while listening to heavy metal are the contents of this new kind of mass pornography that war has become in our age of media ubiquity. "Clean//Unclean", which can be presented as a live performance or a simple video, was selected for the video section of the international contemporary art fair Artissima. That same year Motor won the first Action Sharing competition, and with the support of Action Sharing and the Torino Chamber of Commerce began working on the project "Orchestra Meccanica Marinetti" ("Marinetti Mechanical Orchestra"), which debuted on the stage on 20 November 2008.
He is currently working on a new live project.
