Alterazioni Video

Established in Milan in 2004, Alterazioni Video is an artist collective consisting of Paololuca Barbieri Marchi, Alberto Caffarelli, Matteo Erenbourg, Andrea Masu and Giacomo Porfiri. The group acts as a widespread, mobile international network exploring misinformation and the relationship between truth and representation, legality and illegality, and freedom and censorship, combining the languages of art with political activism across all forms of media.

Violent Paintings are aesthetic scrap created by altering images found on-line on amateur sites, a hotchpotch of home photography, pornography, hentai graphics, second-rate special effects and art classics. The result is a series of puzzles created by countless alterations progressively made by the members of the alterazioni video collective, who live in different countries. the images are designed to disturb the viewer, to evoke the same sense of exasperation felt in communication via chat sites, VOIP systems and e-mail. Technical errors and dysfunctional contact between humans and machines are obstacles to communication and understanding. A look at how the overload of stop & start connections, world time differences and system crashes ultimately triggers the aesthetically violent explosion of relations between people.
