WORKSHOP

Re-programmed Art: An Open Manifesto

21th March, 05:00 pm

Casa Jasmina at FabLab

Organized in Lugano (Switzerland), artists and designers have expanded the historic works of Gruppo T with interactive behaviours designed using open-source hardware and software technologies. These re-programmed art works were released in open documentation under the Creative Commons licenses in order to support reproducibility, extension and further participatory developments by the public. The results of this research-action were showcased in a group exhibition at Swiss Institute in Milan in March 2015.

“Re-programmed Art: an Open Manifesto” is coordinated by Serena Cangiano and Davide Fornari, with the collaboration of Azalea Seratoni, promoted by the Laboratory of Visual Culture of SUPSI—University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, in partnership with Museo Alessi, Archivio Gabriele Devecchi, Archivio Gianni Colombo, Arduino, ECAV—Ecole cantonale d’art du Valais, SGMK—Swiss Mechatronic Art Society, and Wemake.

The project was developed in the context of “Viavai—Contrabbando culturale Svizzera-Lombardia,” a programme of cross-border exchanges, promoted by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and supported by Migros culture Percentage.

Workshop

Participants will experience a re-enactment of “Hexagon,” the re-programmed translation of the concept that generated the series “Virtual Cylindrical Structures” by Giovanni Anceschi (1963–1966).

Six motors drive two rotating rods that draw six truncated cone shapes in space, creating virtual volumes. The speed varies from motor to motor, and as a consequence so do the six shapes drawn in the air at the sides of the hanging cube.
