Share Festival Warm-up: OMM Arcade

Two robot drummers. Two steel drums. An interface between the audience and the machines.
Mechatronics and music. The regular OMM line-up consists of two robot drummers that play steel drums “live”, under the direction of a performer. The orchestra, whose name pays tribute to the futurist poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, represents a bridge between the city of Turin’s industrial past, and its future as a city of knowledge, driven by transformations currently underway.

Action Sharing, together with Operae 2013, is proud to present Orchestra Meccanica Marinetti Arcade.Angelo Comino has developed an all-new version of his robot orchestra, inviting the audience take the conductor’s stand.
Thanks to the support of the Torino Chamber of Commerce and Cantieri OGR, Action Sharing has produced this next-generation of the OMM project, in which the artist stands aside to leave room for the robots and channel the audience’s creativity onto the stage.
From 11th October to 3rd November, the Orchestra Meccanica Marinetti Arcade will be on show and accessible to the public at the Cantieri OGR in Turin.

The development and production of the Orchestra Meccanica Marinetti was made possible thanks to the support of the Torino Chamber of Commerce, which embraced Action Sharing’s vision of developing a new understanding of culture, where art is not confined within the walls of art galleries and museums. In this vision, art is opened to the business world to become an engine for economic growth and local development, drawing from the design, technological innovation and creative capacities that can be found in local companies of excellence.

The Cantieri OGR, with its commitment to innovation and to the languages of contemporaneity, proved a natural partner for the project, in which interactivity, music and robotics come together to entertain and show audiences how the worlds of business, research and the arts can work side by side.
